MAPANG caters primarily for missionaries and church workers from recognised churches and agencies, who are offered some discount rates. Others pay the usual rate of K230 per person per night in a shared room. Due to the high demand from our primary member clients, commercial bookings are only open 7 days prior to date of stay.
Office hours are Monday-Saturday 8am-5pm and Sunday 2pm-5pm. The best way to communicate is by email to : office@mapang.org
CHECK-IN time is from 12 noon; Check-out time is 10:00 am. You may store luggage and use our lounge area if your room is not ready when you arrive or depart later in the day.
Self-serve BREAKFAST is included in your accommodation and available up until 9am. If you have an early arrival, breakfast can be purchased for K33.00 per adult.
LUNCH of sandwichesis served at 12 noon and costs K33.00 per person. Please advise the office before 9am to book in if not already included in your Reservation Request Form. Lunch is usually not served on Saturday or Sunday.
DINNER is served promptly at 6 pm. In order for the staff to have enough food prepared, we can only provide dinner for those who have booked in by 9am. The adult cost is K44.00. If you are arriving late, a meal can be kept for you if requested. Please note that if you book a meal, but do not eat it for any reason, you will still be charged for it.
ACCESS to KITCHEN: Our kitchen is off limits and not available for use by guests to prepare or cook their own food. However, in the dining room, guests can store limited food supplies on a shelf in the common fridge, and use the microwave, kettle and toaster. And of course, there are several place to eat out close by.
People with food intolerances should advise the office when booking in so that the cooks can attempt to prepare special food accordingly, although this is not guaranteed if there are many other guests to cater to.
SECURITY. We try to restrict entry to only guests and genuine visitors. The front door has a button code security lock and guests will be given the code on registration. Please do not give it out to anyone else. People visiting our guests are not permitted in bedrooms but are welcome to meet with guests in the courtyard or sitting room, provided they are only a few and are not disturbing other guests. The gate guards may restrict visitor access but will advise guests to meet them at the gate and approve their entry. The main building is locked from 8.00 pm each night and an access key made available for those with night engagements.
LATE CANCELLATION & NO SHOWS : Unless it is due to unscheduled flight cancellations and an absence of phone coverage, anyone not informing Mapang of a cancellation within the 24 hours before the expected arrival will incur a No Show & Late Cancellation Fee (50% of the charge for their first night), plus any booked meal charges.
TRANSPORTATION. Mapang does not normally provide transportation, as we only have 1 small sedan. The best way to come to Mapang from the airport is by taxi. Choose a taxi that is clean and tidy and make sure BEFORE YOU GET IN that the driver knows where we are in Lahara Avenue, Boroko, and agrees to the fare of K30. After dark, they will charge more, and if you have a large amount of luggage to be loaded and unloaded. Most will not provide change, so try to have the exact amount ready. If the driver is unsure of our location (rare), tell him to go straight down Murray Highway to the Boroko Mobil station and turn left. Taxis FROM Mapang can be hailed easily outside the gate, or phoned.
AT THE AIRPORT : Before leaving the airport, 1) go to the ATM inside the terminal building and get cashed up with Kina. BE CAREFUL how you display and store your card, cash and valuables! Then 2) get your phone organised at the Digicel counter right outside Customs. They will help you load it, and you need to immediately use the credit to sign up for a 1TOK Combo plan, otherwise all your credit will be gone in an hour. Then go to the ATM inside the terminal building to get cashed up
MAPANG does not allow the following anywhere inside the property fence: smoking or chewing tobacco, alcoholic beverages, or betel nut.
And because the building is constructed of non-sound-proofable timber, and most accommodations are in shared dorm rooms, COURTESY and CONSIDERATION TOWARDS OTHER GUESTS is VERY IMPORTANT.
