TRANSPORTATION. Mapang does not provide transportation. The best way to come to Mapang from the airport is by taxi. Choose a taxi that is clean and tidy and make sure the driver knows where we are in Lahara Avenue, Boroko, behind the Mobil service station on Hubert Murray Drive before you get in. Always negotiate the fare before you get into the taxi.An acceptable fare to or from the airport is K30 during the day and K40 after dark, unless you have a large amount of luggage to be loaded and unloaded. If the driver asks for more, tell them that it is too high and walk to another taxi. Mostly they will call you back and reduce their fare accordingly. As most will not provide change, try to have the exact amount ready. Taxis FROM Mapang can be hailed easily outside the gate, or phoned.
AT THE AIRPORT : Before leaving the airport, 1) go to the ATM inside the terminal building and get cashed up with Kina. BE CAREFUL how you display and store your card, cash and valuables! Then 2) get your phone organised at the Digicel counter right outside Customs. They will help you load it, and you need to immediately use the credit to sign up for a 1TOK Combo plan, otherwise all your credit will be gone in an hour. Then go to the ATM inside the terminal building to get cashed up
MAPANG does not allow the following anywhere inside the property fence: smoking or chewing tobacco, alcoholic beverages, or betel nut.
And because the building is constructed of non-sound-proofable timber, and most accommodations are in shared dorm rooms, COURTESY and CONSIDERATION TOWARDS OTHER GUESTS is VERY IMPORTANT.
