GENERAL INFORMATION for Guests: MAPANG caters primarily for missionaries and church workers from recognised churches and agencies, who are entitled to approved discount rates. Others will pay the normal rate of K200 per person per night. All bookings are subject to availability. Due to the demand from our primary clients, it is policy that commercial bookings are only open 7 days prior to date of stay.
Office hours are Monday-Saturday 7:45am-5:45 pm and Sunday 7:45am-8:15am & 2:00pm-5:45pm. We may not be available to answer your query outside of these times. Check-in time is from 1:00 pm; Check-out time is 10:00 am. You may store luggage and use our lounge area if your room is not ready when you arrive or depart later in the day.
Self-serve BREAKFAST is included in your accommodation fee and available up until 9am. If you have an early arrival, breakfast can be purchased for K20.00 per adult. LUNCHSalad/sandwich is served between 12:00 noon and 1pm and costs K20.00. Please advise the office before 11am to book in if not already included in your Reservation Request Form. Lunch is NOT served on Sunday. DINNER is served promptly at 6:00 pm and the dining room cleared by 7:00 pm. The deadline for booking in for dinner is 11:00 am. We regret that due to staff preparation requirements, we can only provide dinner for those who have booked in by 11am. The adult cost is K30.00. If you are arriving late, a meal can be kept for you if requested. From time to time we do have frozen meals available or can arrange take-away pizza for those unable to book in time due to unforseen circumstances such as flight cancellations. Please note that if you book a meal, but do not eat it, you will still be charged for it. USE OF KITCHEN We employ local staff as cooks and housekeepers and they look after meals and clean up. Our kitchen is not available for use by guests as a communal kitchen to prepare or cook their own food. We ask guests to remain out of the kitchen and to ask the kitchen staff if they need anything. People with food intolerances should advise the Hosts when booking in so that the cooks can prepare their food accordingly. The flat (Room 7 & 8) does have a kitchenette which can be booked for those guests who wish to cook for themselves.
SECURITY. We try to restrict entry to only guests and genuine visitors. The front door has a button code security lock and guests will be given their code on registration. Please do not give it out to anyone else. People visiting our guests are not permitted in bedrooms but are welcome to meet with guests in the courtyard or lounge area. The gate guards may restrict visitors access but will advise guests to meet them at the gate and approve their entry. The main building is locked from 8.00 pm each night and an access key made available for those with night engagements. Night guards patrol the premises and you may hear them patrolling at nighth occasionally.
CANCELLATION & NO SHOW. Unless it is due to unscheduled flight changes, a No Show & Late Cancellation Fee of K50 per person (plus any booked meal charges) applies if less than 24 hours’ notice of cancellation is given.
TRANSPORTATION IN PORT MORESBY. MAPANG does not provide transportation. The best way to come to MAPANG is by taxi from the airport, where there are lots of willing drivers in the taxi bay ready to take you. We suggest you choose a taxi that is clean and tidy which most are these days due to airport parking requirements. Make sure the driver knows where we are in Lahara Avenue, Boroko, behind the Mobil service station on Hubert Murray Drive before you get in, as sometimes they will drive around trying to find us, then charge extra. If not, go to another taxi. Please negotiate the fare before you get into the taxi.An acceptable fare to or from the airport is K35-K4o during the day and K45-K50 after dark. If the driver asks for more, tell them that it is too high and walk to another taxi. Mostly they will call you back and reduce their fare accordingly. As most will not provide change, try to have the exact amount ready - otherwise all your bargaining for a good price will be wasted when you have to hand over a K50 or K100 note!! You can call a taxi if you think this is a more suitable option. Several drivers come to MAPANG often and are used by many guests. Most of the time, our guests have reported satisfaction with their service.
MAPANG does not allow the following anywhere inside the property fence: smoking or other tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, or betel nut.
